LYS-rating
The LYS-rating is the saling world's handicap system that enables boats with different levels of performance to match race against each other. The system is a Swedish invention and was introduced in 1970. Its yardstick is the Allegro 27 boat, which was given a LYS-rating of 1.0. A boat with a LYS-rating of 1.30 should sail 30 % faster than a boat with a LYS-rating of 1.0.
